Dragon

The struggle with a desk job at my age highlights a balance between desk time productivity versus fitness. After ten years of Zen Do Kai, I’ve only just released they coexist. After ten years of Zen Do Kai, I’ve only just released they coexist. Part of my 2022 black belt assessment required a personal presentation, a painting of a dragon on a skateboard has many meanings symbolized with one piece.

Skateboarding is a first obsession, with martial arts coming in a close 2nd, and slowly over taking in recent years. Now training for my 2nd degree, I am fitter than I’ve ever been and in turn has inspired many artistic ideas, taking me in new directions, with new mediums. A requirement of this level is a personal presentation, I painted of a dragon on a skateboard with many symbols which has personal meaning.

Skate & Create

The 80s in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, I’ve always felt like a black sheep with sports, but I found skateboarding as a common interest that I shared with kids in my court. A year later it turned into an obsession which consumed my thoughts, like a puzzle I was compelled to solve. As and adult, it’s not surprising to learn many of society’s outcasts, the creative minds & alternatives, found skateboarding to fit for their off centre personality, and will never leave you. These days I still skate, at a limited capacity due to age, but every chance I get to learn new 3D tools, I choose to fall back on skate related objects. Thank you Substance painter

2014

We made the move to Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula and launched 10Tickles Studio, it felt like the natural choice to live in the place where we used to spend our holidays.

Escaping the rat race was a priority. We’d climbed the corporate ladder and convinced ourselves our jobs were important and fulfilling. But nothing compares to community involvement, staying active, spending time with real friends, creating something of our own, and skateboarding.
Strangely, the only one of those easier to do in the city, is skateboarding.

When we took the leap to pursue our creative ideas, we discovered a whole community of like-minded people who shared our passion. Now, with some award-winning titles under our belt, life is busier than ever, the difference being, it’s for all the right reasons.
